As a part of Transitions' initiative to support media and news literacy of different audiences in the Czech Republic, an initial pilot workshop for senior citizens took place in Prague in May 2018. This workshop, conducted in close collaboration with Elpida (a nonprofit organization working with senior citizens), built upon the findings of a TOL´s recent in-depth research among senior citizens around the Czech Republic to better understand their relationship with the media and internet. The event aimed to test and pilot various approaches to media education for this age group. 12 seniors citizens from all corners of the Czech Republic participated together with six young journalism students who joined the group. The program was evaluated highly by the participants, particularly the presence and interaction with young students and the speakers who shared their experiences of working in the news, marketing, fact-checking and media field. This event was an outstanding start and learning for a series of future events and activities that will be organized by TOL in towns and cities around the Czech Republic.
I enjoyed everything. The speakers did a great job. They were nice and charismatic people who know what they are talking about.“ Mrs. from a mid-size city in Western Bohemia.
I have so much to think about. I would like to share these new learnings with other people. Thank you very much.“ Mrs. Alena from a small town in Moravia.
Thanks for great event organization and a chance to participate. Everyone was very nice and attentive. The workshop was a great experience for me. It widened my view on the current situation in the world and information spreading.“ Mrs. Irena from a small town north of Prague.
