Who attended the Investigative Journalism course?
Working journalists and journalism students from Europe, North America, Russia, and the Caucasus attended the summer 2010 course.
The trainers
The course was led by Mark Schapiro, an award-winning journalist and the editorial director of the Center for Investigative Reporting. He was joined by David Leigh, The Guardian's investigations editor and Brigitte Alftera, a journalist and manager of the Scoop network for investigative journalists.
The essentials of investigative journalism
Participants learnt investgative methodology, investigative tactics and interviewing techniques and how to build a publishable case. They looked at conspiracy theories, current trends, working within the EU and how to deal with the law.
