YAF-TOL Training: Developing New/Social Media Projects in Moldova - overview

Institutul Muncii

In late November, TOL and the Youth Action Fund of the Open Society Institute (OSI) partnered in the design and presentation of a two-day workshop on creating new media and social media projects. Participants were young people from over Moldova, including the Transdniester region, active especially in their local communities and with a variety of backgrounds. Some are university students, or even school-age pupils, while others work for NGOs, educational institutions, or the local or regional public administration.

The goal of the training was to develop the knowledge and skills of the participants in relation to new/social media, in order for them to be able to submit projects to OSI’s Youth Action Fund and receive support for their initiatives. TOL organized the first day of training, starting with the presentation of new media concepts, their development, and their importance in promoting youth and social topics. The program continued with the technological aspects of new/social media, with a focus on open-source solutions, and the promotion of such projects to reach the largest possible audience. A final session on social entrepreneurship encouraged the participants to come up with sustainability plans for their projects.

The second day’s training presented the Youth Action Fund’s priorities and guidelines for submitting project proposals. Training personnel then provided participants with pointers for writing effective proposals and helped brainstorm about specific project ideas. By the end of the day, participants left with draft proposals to be developed on their own into full-scale projects.
