TOL’s project in Azerbaijan is a one-year plan to increase media pluralism and civic activism in Azerbaijan through promoting the use of new media techniques among journalists, NGOs, youth movements, and other civil society organizations. Donor: National Endowment for Democracy
Objectives
The overall goal of this project is to increase media plurality and civic activism in Azerbaijan through increasing the capacity of individuals and organizations to launch and sustain new media projects; demonstrating how underrepresented groups can use new media to call attention to their interests; shepherding sustainable new media projects from idea to launch; spawning projects that fill the gaps in current media coverage; and providing online resources and media tools in the Azeri language. New and social media will also be highlighted as a powerful way to build the capacity of civil society groups to advocate for their causes, raise public awareness, and play a more active role in public life.
Project Activities
Project activities include a series of workshops and outreach sessions in Baku and the regions; pilot projects funded through microgrants; the localization and creation of online tools and resources; and places at TOL’s new media summer school.
