RSS in short
1 December 2004
So what is RSS? RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a tool that enables you to read TOL headline news feeds as well as headlines from other RSS-enabled websites. By now you have probably already encountered the
symbol quite a few times perhaps without really understanding how this service can benefit you in your daily search for relevant news. Relevance is the key here, as this technology enables you to collect feeds from your favorite news site, saving you time and effort, while ensuring that you only receive the feeds that interest you.
How to get started
In order to view the feeds properly (as opposed to the barrage of codes that you probably encountered when clicking on the XML link) you need to install an RSS newsfeeder. These are usually freely available and a large number of developers have already released their own version on of this technology. They all perform the same basic task, however: allowing you to immediately see the latest articles posted on your favorite sites.
Here are a few of the readers available:
FeedReader
FeedDemon
And countless others…

TOL feeds
For now, TOL offers one general feed of all its content but will continue to expand its RSS services in the near future.
